Indonesia is a big beautiful country that is located between the Indian and Pacific ocean. It is the world's largest island country with more than seventeen thousand islands. Because of that one or two months are not enough to explore the country. As for American citizens, you will be granted 30 days visa on arrival for free. But you will not be able to extend it if you decide to stay longer. If you want to stay for two months, you have two options; first, you can get paid visa on arrival at the airport for $25 then get it extended for another month at the nearest immigration office (this will cost you another $35), or the second option you can get a social visa before your arrival. I chose to get a social visa because of two reasons; It is cheaper for the long run and I can stay for up to six months (with two-time extensions). Not so many people know about it, So here on this page I will help you to prepare the documents to get a social visa.
What do you need:
A passport which has at least one blank page for the visa and must be valid for 12 months (up to six months stay)
One recent passport photo
Complete application form, you can find the for here
Invitation letter from family or organization in Indonesia (must be signed with materai 6000)
Copy of ID card of the person who signed the letter of invitation
Copy of inbound and outbound flight ticket
Copy of hotel reservation
Payment in money order of $50 payable to Indonesian Consulate
Prepaid self-addressed envelope (preferable using priority mail)
You have options to either apply for it by mail or go in person. There are five Indonesian Consulates in the United States; San Francisco, Los Angeles, Houston, Chicago, and New York. If you are applying by mail, be sure to send the documents to the nearest consulate. If you still do not know which one to choose, you can go on this page. As for the extensions on the visa, every big city usually has agents that can take care of it for a fee (it is worth it as I heard, especially if you are here in Indonesia to have fun and do not want to be bothered with immigration process). If you have any question don't hesitate to leave a comment.
